Tax and rate relief offered to Godstone residents, businesses hit by sinkhole on High Street earlier this year.

The sinkhole appeared after a water main broke, and SES Water teams were dispatched to fix the issue. The council has reported on their current status, noting that a section of High Street remains shut, but six households can return because their properties are now officially safe.
The council has suspended council tax and business rates; this applies while people cannot use their properties, even though annual bills are already out. Further site testing is, however, delayed; they will assess the site next week for safety, and then they will develop reconstruction plans.
The council is working with Surrey County Council Highways, and residents can now retrieve essential belongings. Temporary housing also exists for those requiring it, and if insurance denies payment, residents can call the council at 01883 722 000.
The council also gives business support; this involves assistance with insurance claims and planning. Godstone’s local businesses all remain open. Royal Mail also holds mail for affected people at the Redhill Delivery Office, but residents need valid ID.
