Val d’Oro in Glasgow, supposedly Scotland’s oldest fish and chip shop, continues to serve customers with delicious food. It’s highly rated!

It started way back in 1875. The Beltrami family first opened it and called it The Swiss Restaurant back then. The Corvi family bought it in 1938 and renamed it Val d’Oro.
Luigi Corvi, a famous singer, once ran it. He sang opera for Celtic fans before games. Queen Elizabeth even invited Corvi to perform at the Scottish Parliament’s opening in 2011. He became very well-known.
Val d’Oro stayed open during World War Two and became very popular later. Celebrities visited, like Frankie Boyle, Jimmy Logan and the McCartneys. Luigi’s brother, Enrico, now runs Val d’Oro with help from his son, Gianluca.
Enrico is also an actor. Photos of Luigi still cover the walls. The shop’s inside looks old-fashioned, celebrating its history, and the old tables and chairs add charm.
They sell more than just fish and chips. You can get scampi, haggis, or steak pies. Smoked sausage, pizza crunches, and fritters are also available, and they offer filled rolls, too.
Val d’Oro still gets good reviews today. It boasts a 4.6 rating on Google based on 241 reviews. One customer called it Glasgow’s best, liked the friendly owners, and loved the food and prices.
Another person praised the great food and top-notch service. They highly recommend it as their best experience in years. Someone else said it’s the best fish and chips. They found it authentic, delicious, and the owner wonderful and welcoming.
