New Glasgow subway trains need £120,000 in repairs due to wobbly rides, despite a £288 million project cost.

A government group, SPT, runs the subway. They added over 100 dampers. These parts make rides smoother. The upgrades cost around £120,000. The entire project cost £288 million.
SPT said dampers improved ride quality. They stated trains still met safety rules. The new trains had problems after launching, breaking down over 20 times last year. Passengers had to walk through tunnels three times.
The subway suspended 50 services since December. Trips now take 30 minutes, not 24. SPT blamed signalling problems and cited door issues causing longer stops.
SPT said they added dampers after feedback. They wanted better passenger comfort. The train maker met all needed standards initially, but SPT wanted the ride even smoother.
ScotRail will raise fares above inflation in April. This hurts the plan for cheap train rides. A peak return Edinburgh to Glasgow ticket is almost £33. The journey lasts 50 minutes.
The Transport Secretary knows price hikes are bad, but said they must happen. The money subsidizes the nationalized train service. Ministers want people to use trains, not cars, to help meet climate goals.
