A Glasgow man abused his dog, and he now faces consequences for his actions. Grzegorz Bieniek punched his dog, Taz, repeatedly. The court found him guilty of this abuse.

Bieniek received his sentence February 13. The court banned him from owning animals for five years, and he also faces movement restrictions for four months.

Witnesses saw Bieniek punching Taz in October 2023. The dog was a Staffordshire Bull Terrier, and he hit Taz’s back repeatedly with a closed fist.

Bieniek then lifted Taz by his leash and pulled Taz upwards, off the ground. The dog’s front feet dangled, and Taz struggled to touch the ground.

Witnesses contacted the Scottish SPCA helpline and reported what they had seen. The charity went to Bieniek’s place that same day.

They asked to see the dog. Bieniek said Taz was thirteen years old and described Taz as an elderly dog. He said he was a blue Staffordshire Bull Terrier.

Taz moved slowly and seemed stiff, likely due to arthritis from old age. The dog appeared to be in good physical condition, and no injuries showed.

Bieniek claimed he wasn’t Taz’s owner, saying he cared for Taz for four months. Taz seemed scared, his tail was tucked, and he shook when Bieniek spoke.

These signs suggested Taz felt threatened. Investigators asked Bieniek if he hit the dog, and he replied, “not really.” Then he became defensive and aggressive.

Due to safety concerns, they called the police and needed help to take the dog. Taz had to be carried down the stairs because his hips were too stiff.

The SPCA had serious concerns for Taz’s welfare. Taz’s fear and Bieniek’s behavior raised red flags. A vet exam found no new injuries, while Taz’s age and stiffness pointed to health problems.

The SPCA inspector thanked the witnesses. Taz was in their care for months, and he suffered from severe arthritis. Scans showed untreatable hip dysplasia.

Sadly, they euthanized Taz for his welfare because he suffered for his last four months. Bieniek is now held responsible for this suffering.
