Local couple opens ‘Through The House’ coffee shop in Glasgow, pursuing their passion for coffee, community, and culture.

Lewis Maddock and Rachel Morgan own Through The House and possess much passion and experience in coffee. Rachel has worked as a barista in many places, ranging from indie shops to fancy restaurants in the UK. Lewis worked at Thomson’s espresso bar in Giffnock and is well-known from Glasgow coffee shops.
The team values quality and works with local suppliers. Thomson’s Coffee supplies the house roast, while Big Bear Bakery makes the cakes, Wheatberry provides pastries, and Doh! makes the doughnuts. They will also feature guest coffee roasters from across the UK and Europe, cities where the owners have lived.
The shop will sell teas and soft drinks, and also plan to sell branded merchandise. They want to expand the menu later and hope to grow their retail offerings.
The couple wants to share their passions and hope to provide coffee, music and good times. They also want the space to be creative, as coffee is both science and art for them, and Through The House will reflect both their roots.
Lewis and Rachel changed careers to open this shop; he was a chemist and she was a dancer. They want to create a cultural hub and hope it will be a relaxed and welcoming spot, like a living room for the community.
The owners are from Inverurie, Aberdeenshire, and bringing a North East feeling inspires them. People from the North East welcome guests “through the house,” and the name evokes warm hospitality.
The couple’s great love is now taking shape in Glasgow, as they enjoy coffee, food, and music culture. The owners are very happy to open the shop, and excited to meet new customers soon, inviting people to ask questions about coffee.
The team has drinks and snacks for all tastes and even plan to host some events, because Glasgow feels like home.
