A councillor thinks Glasgow could fund fireworks. Common good money could cover it, he stated. Jon Molyneux mentioned other Scottish councils do this; he is a local Green politician.

Glasgow City Council had £90,000 in hospitality funds last December. Molyneux sees a chance to use this money and suggested a public firework display, noting they no longer have one.

He asked about access to civic hospitality benefits and wants wider access for all citizens, including marginalised groups, he emphasized. He believes everyone should benefit equally.

A council official responded to his inquiry, stating that common good fund income usually pays for hospitality. Councillors can change this, if they decide to.

The committee recommended the 2025-2026 budget and sent it to the city administration committee. The fund grew since 2009, increasing from £13.4 million to £20.9 million this March.

The council gains income from owned property. Income should cover all expenses next year, including investments, commissions, and rents. This ensures budget stability.
