A Glasgow bar may need to remove its deck. Cafe Ibiza made a beer garden last year with outdoor seating for seventy people.

The bar is on Maryhill Road and was previously named the Botany. They applied for permission in March 2024, but built the deck before getting approval. Cafe Ibiza did not get planning permission first and officials rejected their request for the beer garden, which sits just behind the main building.

Their second request also failed. Now, the owners must remove the deck and Councillor Ken Andrew said it is now an “enforcement issue.”

Andrew, who sits on the planning committee, said the owners could appeal to government ministers. He added the committee refused the request. The planning group saw the application as “contentious”, wondering about the business’s future.

Andrew said the deck lacks permission and explained they will ask them to remove it. The pub and restaurant have consent, with only the large deck being the problem. Cafe Ibiza has been asked for their comments.
