Council tax could increase in Glasgow and Lanarkshire. Votes will happen this month. Find out what areas are affected.

The SNP thinks they gave enough money. COSLA seems happier than before. John Swinney added £144m for councils. This helps with national insurance costs that Labor put in place.
Some bosses still think they need more cash. They feel years of underfunding are hurting services. They might need big tax increases. Swinney said 10% rises shouldn’t be needed.
Glasgow might raise taxes by 5% in 2025/26. Officials are looking at different options and no decisions have been made yet. The council votes on taxes February 20.
South Lanarkshire may also raise taxes around 5%. North Lanarkshire has new leaders since the SNP fell, and they are thinking about several tax options.
North Lanarkshire options go from 7.44% to 13.76%. One plan is a rise between 9% and 11%. This would fix a £14m shortfall, and they vote on their budget February 20 too.
