Community grieves Ray Ryan, Cork hurler and Garda, with diversions around Glanmire for his funeral procession.

Gardai informed the community about the funeral plans to honor his contribution. A guard of honor occurred at Sars GAA club, and the funeral proceeded to St Joseph’s Church. People could watch the Mass online, and the burial was at St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
People shared tributes after Ray’s death, calling him a gentleman and a stalwart. Ray managed Sars’ minor team and won the Cork Senior Hurling Championship in 2008. He was Cork’s captain in the National Hurling League.
Ray worked for An Garda Síochána and was popular in Cork’s GAA community. His brother, Pat, manages Cork’s senior hurlers. Ray’s funeral procession followed a specific route.
Cars couldn’t drive toward the procession, and Gardai managed the junctions, trying to keep traffic flowing. The Ballincrossig junction closed during the funeral. Vehicles from Rathcooney only turned left, and the Spring Hill/Pike field junction also closed.
The funeral procession went through Glanmire Village and passed Vienna Woods. Then, it went onto the dual carriageway and exited near the old Ibis hotel. Finally, it arrived at the Glounthaune Road and ended at St Joseph’s cemetery.
His club shared a touching message, stating they will always remember Ray. He was the heart of their club, and his legacy includes victories and touched lives.
Ray had passion for hurling, nurtured young talent, and taught teamwork and perseverance. He loved the game, and people honored Ray’s life because he gave a lot both on and off the field. He will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
