A 3-year-old girl died after a van struck her in Manchester city centre following a tram crash. Investigation underway.

A tram and a white van crashed, and then the van reportedly hit the child as she was walking on the street. Mosley Street is now closed, and trams aren’t running through St Peter’s Square either.
Police responded to the crash, which involved a tram and a van in Manchester’s city center. Authorities took the girl to a hospital, but sadly, she passed away.
Police have not arrested anyone yet and are still looking into what happened. The tram appeared to be going toward St Peter’s Square, while the van seemed to be on the pavement.
The tram was traveling from Victoria to the airport. Police and Metrolink workers are at the scene and detectives spoke to local businesses about the incident.
Transport for Greater Manchester reported major delays impacting the entire Metrolink network. Consequently, no trams run through St Peter’s Square presently. Metrolink tickets now work on buses and some Northern trains, and several trams are going through Exchange Square instead.
