The once bustling Buffalo Joes, a River Tyne hotspot, now stands empty after a failed rebrand and recent fire.

Buffalo Joes was like a big Wild West saloon. It was near Baja Beach Club. Baja had Metro FM on Fridays, but Buffalo Joes was still popular. People went to other bars too, including Pravda, Casa, Chase, and Jimmy’s.
LeAnn Rimes probably didn’t sing there. But, local girls danced on the bar. They loved songs like “Pour Sugar on Me,” “I Touch Myself” and “Cherry Pie”.
Mike Ashley, the ex-Newcastle owner, went there sometimes. Buffalo Joes was unique, but it closed in 2010 after it became Viva @ Buffalo Joes. Sadly, the business went into administration.
Baja closed in 2008 and became offices. People thought Buffalo Joes would also become offices. It went up for sale in 2020 and is still empty by the Tyne. People miss the old days.
Last year, there was a fire at Buffalo Joes. Firefighters rushed to the Quayside to put out the fire in the empty building.
Police said they got a fire report on Pipewellgate in Gateshead. Emergency services came and put it out; no one got hurt. They think it might be arson and are still investigating.
