Police launch a 24-hour speed enforcement operation on February 26. Aim is to reduce speeding and improve road safety.

This is part of National Slowdown Day. The goal? Make people think about speeding risks. They want drivers to obey speed limits. Also, police aim to stop people speeding too much.
They will check speeds in special zones. Ireland has over 1,000 speed enforcement zones. You can find zone locations on the police website. Police say speeding endangers everyone. It reduces your reaction time for surprises.
You could lose control and crash. The faster you go, the bigger the risk. A crash can seriously hurt or kill someone.
Last year, police ticketed many speeders. They gave out about 400 tickets per day! Police urge bosses to talk to staff about road safety. Do they encourage safe driving to work and back? Do they allow enough travel time?
Speeding causes many collisions. Driving too fast for conditions is also risky. Police shared some scary facts earlier. At 30 km/h, 1 in 10 pedestrians die if hit. At 50 km/h, 5 in 10 die. At 60 km/h, 9 in 10 die. Be careful!
