Robert O Hara, a jailed gangster, bankrolled his family’s lavish lifestyle in Glasgow, including a luxury flat, from behind bars.

His partner and daughter lived well because of him, residing in a Glasgow flat worth £635,000. In 2021, police raided properties and found watches, jewelry, clothes, and cash worth over £300,000.
O’Hara killed Paul McDowall in 2005, directing the stabbing near McDowall’s home by phone. He appeared in court by video and admitted to directing organized crime between 2018 and 2021.
The judge gave O’Hara nine more years in prison. Initially, the police investigation focused on another person. They seized drugs, guns, ammunition, and a pill press.
The prosecutor stated O’Hara ran the gang from prison since 2004, funding a luxurious lifestyle for his partner and daughter. O’Hara was in two prisons during the crimes.
He used illegal phones to send texts and photos, directing criminal activities and telling others what to do. He wanted someone to buy a Lamborghini and images of cars were sent to him.
A spreadsheet detailed his finances, showing income, expenses and wages paid to his family. His partner and daughter lived in the flat. O’Hara got angry when rent was late and sent a threatening voice message. He also sent links to properties for sale.
He wanted his partner to buy a property costing between £500,000 and £1 million, discussing houses in different areas. The police searched the Park Circus flat, finding cash, clothes, shoes, watches, and jewelry.
Other properties were also searched and more watches, money, and trainers were found, including a Rolex Daytona. O’Hara pleaded guilty early on to sort things out and get a chance with his family.
The judge reduced the sentence due to the plea, acknowledging O’Hara’s honesty, but found no reason to reduce it more.
