A phone theft trick occurred near GMIT bus stop. Woman asked to use phone and tried to board a bus with it. Beware!

The woman wanted to help, so she agreed. The borrower then tried to get on a bus with the other woman’s phone. The phone owner blocked her path and shouted until she got her phone back. She warned others to be very careful of this trick.
Elsewhere in Galway, people received a warning regarding suspicious vehicles that caused concern this week. Residents should watch out for certain vans. “Tradesmen” in vans are visiting homes. They have ladders on their vans and offer building and maintenance services. This has been reported in the Ballygar area.
People should report suspicious callers to the guards. A social media post alerted locals Thursday that vans are visiting homes with fallen trees, and they offer to cut them or provide other services.
The tradesmen might mention local names. This is to create a false sense of trust as they offer cheap work and ask for cash upfront. People should not engage with them, but report any suspicious activity to local police.
