TfL will fix Gallows Corner flyover. The Department for Transport approved funding for it. People have wanted this upgrade for years. It was built in 1970 and considered dangerous.

Currently, there are restrictions. The speed limit is 20 mph, and heavy trucks cannot use it. Closures will happen on the flyover and roads under it.

Work will start in the summer, when traffic is lighter. Lane closures begin March 10, 2025.

A councilor said this causes “massive issues.” Gallows Corner is key for Havering, as residents and businesses use it. People travel in and out of London via it.

The fix strengthens the flyover so trucks can use it again. The speed limit increases to 30 mph. TfL says this helps the roundabout below by removing large vehicles from that junction.

TfL says this extends the flyover lifespan. It will last sixty years longer, and temporary repairs will reduce. The current layout will change. TfL believes this will improve safety and traffic.

Councillor Mugglestone welcomes the flyover refurbishment. He says closures will cause problems on roads and hopes for better journey times. He will continue to push for roundabout improvements.

He hopes works will start and finish on time because delays would cause chaos, according to the councilor. The council will work with TfL to minimize disruption.

TfL is working with local groups and National Highways. They plan to reduce problems before work begins. Council services may get affected, including SEND transport and rubbish. The council will inform residents about the work.
