Plans for 330 new homes in Frome are questioned. Concerns arise over services, flooding, and environment, with limited benefits seen.

The company first proposed the idea in February 2024. Originally, it was going to be 420 homes. They showed revised plans at an event. Locals worry about the impact of the new homes.
They think it will strain services and increase flooding. They also fear harm to the environment. Access will be from Oldford Hill, and a road will be moved to ease traffic.
Houses will be in the south of the site. A park will be in the north, as a buffer. Green spaces are planned throughout, and paths enable access to the town and Commerce Park.
Ninety-nine homes will be affordable. This meets the council’s 30% target. A village hall is possible if needed. A company representative discussed engaging with the council.
They also want feedback from the local community and councils. From 2006 to 2024, Frome built 1,968 homes. Only 420 of these homes were affordable.
A local group is urging people to oppose the plan. The group says the plan ignores safety and traffic issues. They believe traffic will increase in Stonebridge. Schools and services are already strained, and other developments also add to the problem.
Another area in Frome has houses being built. A further 1,700 homes are under consideration. The town will also add 263 homes downtown. The group says the Oldford Hill plan will harm the environment.
They cite the risk of flooding and say paving land stops water absorption. The group sees no benefits for Oldford residents. The company hopes for approval by year’s end.
The planned construction could commence by 2026. The entire project might finish around 2033.
