A cat got a fresh start after a rescue. Workers found her at a railway museum site. Connie Metcalf, a surveyor, remembers the cat fondly; she would sleep under trains, seeking affection.

The cat showed up one day. They thought she belonged to someone. Each morning, they found her by the trains, and despite the loud site, she stayed. She loved being petted and was very friendly.

Workers called her Biscuit, and she became part of their daily lives. When the job ended, they wanted to help her. Rescue centers were full, Connie said, so she would not leave the cat stray. A vet confirmed Biscuit had no microchip and Connie decided to adopt her.

Biscuit is now happy in Durham, living with Connie and another cat named Luna. Connie faces a new challenge: Biscuit has luxating patella. Her kneecap dislocates, which is very severe, and Biscuit needs an operation.

Vets think she broke legs and her tail before. Connie says surgery might fix her knee, and they might need to hold it in place. They don’t know how long she’s had this, and she might need an amputation.

Biscuit does not often act like she’s in pain and loves adventure. She whimpers upon landing, then limps. She gets upset and then goes to lie down.

Anti-inflammatory medicine helps her feel better. She forgets the condition she has sometimes, but jumping down can be a shock afterwards.

Connie can’t insure Biscuit because she lacks history. Her job also stops her from receiving financial help. Connie started a JustGiving page, hoping people can help Biscuit.

Connie wants to give Biscuit another chance because she cares deeply for animals. She would have regretted leaving her, but she cannot afford the full treatment. The fundraiser has seen kind donations, including strangers, which Connie finds touching.

A fundraising page exists for Biscuit’s vet bills.
