Preston could get five hubs with free Wi-Fi, device charging, and public phone. They will also house defibrillators.

The hubs will be about 2.6 meters tall and each will have a defibrillator machine, which could restart hearts after cardiac arrest. The hubs could be at five locations: three are on Fishergate, one is on Church Street, and another is on Lancaster Road.
Most locations are in conservation areas, but the company, In Focus Public Networks Ltd., says they picked locations carefully. They say the sidewalks are wide enough and the hubs won’t block safe pedestrian traffic.
Each hub is described as only 30cm deep and a 32″ touchscreen activates the hub’s features. People can access emergency services directly, view interactive maps, and see local news feeds. A touchpad sits one meter high for wheelchair users.
The ad screen shows static or moving ads, with content changes every ten seconds or less. The screen will show community news and relay safety advice. It will shut off between midnight and 6 a.m.
The applicant will maintain each defibrillator. Instructions show on the screen in multiple languages and the firm will arrange local training. Income from ads will cover the training costs.
Defibrillators used within five minutes boost survival to nearly seventy percent. Each minute of delay reduces the chance of recovery. Delays can reduce survival by ten percent. The firm calls the hubs modern phone boxes.
The company wants street furniture that helps the public through thoughtful design, innovation, and functionality. The tech promotes community connection while supporting local stores and businesses.
