A land sale fight is happening in Chaddesden. A former MP and residents oppose it. The council wants to sell grass off Oregon Way. Amanda Solloway and others are against this plan.

The buyer might build a road there. This road would access a Brook Farm housing site where over 200 homes could be built. The council says it helps meet housing goals and approved the sale. Another land sale is planned for Littleover too.

A petition exists on Change.org with more than 430 signatures. Solloway says the council is selling important land. This sale would lead to building on Brook Farm.

The land sale allows an entrance to the field, which could cause big housing development. More traffic and less open space are expected. Acorn Way could get encroached upon as Conservatives feel this will hurt the community.

Council documents explain the land access issue. The developer must buy the council’s land; otherwise, it cannot proceed with the construction.

Nadine Peatfield discussed land sales rationale, noting targets are hard to reach alone. She understands pressure on their services and area. Meeting housing goals requires cooperation.

She stated there are too many people and not enough homes. Developers must give extra resources. Those resources must accommodate the added houses.

Shiraz Khan said the local plan allocated the houses in 2017. He expects uproar about the development, but nobody objected to the local plan back then.

Khan also added that homes help housing numbers reach normal levels. It opens Grovebury Drive for 500 more homes. Money from sales helps the council, and the houses matter even more, he mentioned.
