Stockton Council might approve new flats in Thornaby. Landmark Estates wants to convert offices at George Stephenson House on St Mark’s Court. The plan includes fifty apartments.

They want to build one to three-bed flats on the two-acre site which is a former Revenue and Customs office at Teesdale Business Park. There will also be a gym for residents, laundry rooms, a communal space, and a concierge.

Total Planning Solutions spoke about the plan, with Fahim Farooqui saying offices will become apartments. The building’s exterior and existing windows and doors will remain the same.

The current parking area, containing 164 spaces, will also remain. The ground floor will have a gym, changing rooms, secure cycle storage, toilets, a reception, and a communal room.

The building will host eleven flats on the ground floor, nineteen flats on the first floor, and twenty apartments on the second floor. Upper floors will have laundry and bike storage.

Farooqui said it’s a chance for new homes, and construction will boost the local economy. More residents mean more local spending. The plan retains and converts an old barn and uses sustainable design with renewable energy. Electric vehicle charging points will be added.
