Plans filed to demolish fire damaged building on West View Road in Hartlepool. Future redevelopment is planned.

The building suffered fire damage, which is the reason for demolition. They also want to redevelop the site, although its future use is not yet determined. They will apply for planning permission again later.
If approved, they hope to start demolition in March. The demolition should take 8 to 10 weeks and will be performed by a specialist contractor. Work hours are 8 AM to 6 PM, Monday to Friday, and 8 AM to 1 PM on Saturdays.
Firefighters fought a fire at the care home back in August 2022. It took them over six hours to extinguish the blaze and five fire crews were called to the scene. The roof tiles were removed to prevent the fire from spreading.
Fire chiefs described it as a “challenging incident,” noting that the building was unsafe in some areas. The fire spread within the roof space, damaging 40% of the building, and water also caused damage. The site is located near Westview Lodge Care Home.
The council is expected to make a decision by the end of this month.
