Popular Folkestone store The Quarter Masters to shut after a decade as owner cites burnout and seeks new career.

Colin White, the owner, called the last eleven years tough. Losing his dog Otis in late 2024 made it harder, and he wants to focus on his burnout since 2022.
Colin explained customer service can be draining; you must be nice even when tired or sad, and giving your full attention becomes difficult then. He felt he wasn’t hiding his struggles well.
The shop opened in December 2013. Colin will still create and sell things online because he got a coaching qualification and wants a career as a life coach. Closing the shop helps him do that.
Colin thanked Folkestone for their support over the years. He appreciated everyone who visited and bought items; kind words and encouragement meant a lot to him.
He said it’s great to create something from nothing because he believes he had an idea, made it real, and people supported it.
Colin mentioned small businesses face challenges now, but said it was a privilege and fun. He learned a lot about what people can do and added that we can support each other and live life differently if we want.
The Quarter Masters wanted to be a different kind of clothing store. They featured art from great global artists and offered an alternative to big brand stores. The shop will close February 28, but you can still buy things online though.
