£46m scheme protects 1,000 homes, enhancing greenery and businesses safety in Rochdale and Littleborough.

This plan protects around 1,000 homes to prevent future disasters. The project began in 2020 and focuses on Littleborough and Rochdale.
The first phase uses a special “rain-ready” system to handle polluted water from construction. The project is overseen by the Environment Agency and Rochdale Council.
Once done, the defenses protect homes and businesses. Specifically, 723 homes and 489 businesses get better protection from flooding.
In Littleborough, the project helps 337 homes and another 185 properties. Additionally, greenery will also get a boost with enhanced woodland and the planting of over 130 trees and 160m of hedges across 1.2 acres.
The scheme involves building a reservoir and flood defenses along the River Roch. These additions help control water flow and reduce flooding risks.
