Large fire at old Acklam Iron and Steelworks club on Park Road South, Middlesbrough. Road closed, residents advised.

Thick smoke rose from the building and was visible for miles. Multiple fire engines were dispatched to the scene, prompting police to close the road.
The fire brigade responded on February 24, 2025, sending five fire engines to the location. Crews from Middlesbrough, Thornaby, and Coulby were present, along with firefighters from County Durham. They utilized breathing gear and a jet to combat the blaze.
Officials advised nearby residents to close all windows and doors to minimize smoke entering their homes.
Police reported the closure of Park Road South due to the building fire. They asked drivers to avoid the area and expressed gratitude for the public’s patience.
The club originally opened in 1903. For over a century, it served as a vital community spot. Years ago, the club president sold the club, leading to an agreement for a new club.
The new club opened in 2023, coinciding with the closure of the old building that same year. The old building is now engulfed in flames.
