A woman was arrested near a Glasgow hospital, marking the first enforcement of the new abortion buffer zone law.

Police Scotland said they knew about protesters near Hardgate Road in Glasgow. Officers went there and arrested a 74-year-old woman for breaking the exclusion zone rules.
The Safe Access Zones law is now in effect, making protests illegal near abortion clinics. The law creates a 200-meter buffer, and MSPs strongly supported this law in the vote that started being enforced in September.
This law came about due to past issues where anti-abortion campaigners caused problems. They approached women outside clinics and used upsetting signs to intimidate people; this behavior led to the new buffer zone law.
An anti-abortion group plans more vigils outside the same Glasgow hospital. The “40 Days for Life” website mentions these vigils will take place from March 5 to April 13 next to the Queen Elizabeth hospital.
Some MSPs are concerned now, thinking a US group feels encouraged. They say JD Vance is supposedly spreading “toxic misinformation” about these zones.
