About twenty wild boars are loose. People saw them near Uath Lochans. That area is in the Highlands park, near Insh. Officials say the pigs seem fairly tame. The park thinks releasing the pigs was illegal.
Crews are still working on the lynx case. Sadly, one lynx died. The Royal Zoological Society described the environment harsh. Police aren’t involved with the pig hunt. The park confirmed they know about the pigs.
They are working with NatureScot and Forestry and Land Scotland. FLS hopes to trap the animals. The park condemns illegal animal releases. People called releasing the boars “reckless.”
They’re worried about the animals’ well-being. The boar release was five miles from the lynx drop-off point. One lynx died after that prior release. Last year, feral pigs made a mess in the Great Glen.
Herds of pigs killed sheep. They destroyed grazing land on farms. The Scottish Land & Estates called the release an illegal act too. NatureScot is aware of pig sightings near Insh.
FLS is leading efforts to trap them, said a spokesman. They speak with agencies on how they got there. Tom Cameron from Forestry and Land Scotland wants to contain the pigs now.
He is concerned about spreading disease to livestock. He asks you to stay away and to call 0300 067 6100 if you see the pigs. The RZSS isn’t involved with these pigs. They cared for the three surviving lynx. The lynx now live at Edinburgh Zoo.
