Dylan Curry jailed for 25 weeks after assaulting garage worker while stealing beer and chocolate in Cowgate.

Curry was with two other people when they went to Morrisons Garage in Cowgate over the weekend. He tried to leave with beer, but a worker tried to stop him.
The worker tried grabbing some beer bottles. Curry shoved the worker two times instead, not wanting to give up the stolen items. CCTV caught the entire event, and police arrested Curry later.
Curry lives on Linum Place in Fenham. He received a 25-week jail sentence after admitting both shop theft and assault and breaking the terms of previous discharges. Jonathan Moore shared details in court at Newcastle Magistrates’ Court, stating that Curry went to Morrison’s on February 1st.
Moore said one man stood by the door while Curry and another man took Budweiser and tried to leave when workers saw them. The man by the door held it open. The men also grabbed chocolate.
Curry dropped some beer, then picked it up. A worker tried stopping him, said Moore, and Curry pushed the worker twice, not wanting to lose the beer. Curry then walked away, and CCTV recorded everything, and police recovered some stolen items.
Defending Curry, Alanna Wesencraft explained his mental health issues, stating that Curry has an alcohol problem and his life is very disorganized.
District Judge Kate Meek sent him to jail due to his long record of theft convictions. The court trusted Curry last year with discharges, but he was not supposed to commit more crimes. He committed new offenses, including assault. Rehabilitation is not possible, Meek stated, because Curry would not even follow report rules.
