Dad on benefits shoplifted petrol after buying presents for kids. He must repay £132.

Jay Jesson went to a Morrisons station in Glenfield on October 25. He filled his Volkswagen with £72 of diesel, then left without paying. Staff wrote down his license plate and told Leicestershire Police.
Before police could arrest him, he returned to the same station on November 23. He stole £60 of diesel that time.
Jesson admitted guilt in court for not paying for fuel two times. This happened at Leicester Magistrates’ Court, where Kulveer Tind represented him.
Tind explained Jesson’s situation: his benefits dates changed, and he spent too much on gifts. He sees his kids for special events. He lives in a hostel now and awaits council housing.
Both thefts occurred at the Glenfield Morrisons on Station Road. Jesson suffered a serious head injury at age 12, which caused him physical and mental issues. His cognition is impacted.
Magistrates chose not to punish Jesson, who is 37 and lives in Leicester. They only ordered compensation. He must repay £132 to Morrisons and will use his benefits to do so.
