Farmfoods submitted plans for a new store on Aylestone Road in Leicester, potentially replacing Magnet.

The store could replace Magnet. Magnet’s lease ends soon, according to papers. Farmfoods believes this will help the economy, citing job benefits.
The plans include changes to the storefront and new doors are part of this renovation. They also plan to adjust the parking lot, which will gain 16 spaces and add a trolley bay. Vehicle access will stay the same.
The new shop would create an estimated 20 to 25 jobs. The hours aren’t set yet in these proposals, but the site currently limits business to certain hours. It can only operate from 7:30 AM to 6:00 PM, Mondays through Saturdays.
Farmfoods needs permission to sell food because a legal rule limits the building’s use. It was set in 1986 for joinery goods, and food and drink were not allowed then.
The public can comment on the plans until the deadline on Wednesday, March 5. The Council aims to decide by Friday, April 4.
