A Scottish farmer needed an airlift. She tried rescuing two stranded sheep.

Sue Dale-Sunley was alerted on Sunday. A walker saw her sheep stuck. It was trapped in brambles near Auchencairn. This happened at Balcary Point. She went to help the animal.

The farmer went farther down the cliffs. She then became stuck herself. A large rescue effort began quickly.

Sue, from Airds of Balcary Farm, spoke to the BBC. She felt surprised a helicopter came. She said she won’t go down there again.

The sheep made it back to the farm safe. Sue got a call about a lost sheep. The caller thought it was stuck. Sue freed the sheep from brambles. The sheep then ran further down.

It got tangled once again. She felt she couldn’t leave it there. She went a bit further to free it. It ran off to join another sheep. Only two sheep were involved overall. She realized she went too far down. Climbing back up became difficult for her.

She tried several paths to get out. She thought she needed some help. Sue didn’t expect a helicopter though. So, she called family, who called the coastguard.

She waited there a very long time. She couldn’t really go anywhere. Sue thinks agencies worked together well. The rescue had a good outcome for her.

Several coastguard teams responded to the call. Teams from Stranraer, and Portpatrick came. Responders from Ballantrae and Portling aided. The Isle of Whithorn team helped too. Kirkcudbright coastguard joined the rescue. A helicopter and Kippford RNLI also arrived.
