Gates block a popular mountain walk. The family cites safety concerns and entrance abuse as reasons for their decision.

Locals protested at the gates on Sunday, gathering at Vicarage Terrace. The walk to the forest is very popular and represents the only accessible route for some. People have scattered ashes of loved ones there, with one resident feeling it’s cruel to block it.
The gates are situated on private land where NRW has a right of way, although this right doesn’t extend to everyone. The family says they had issues with their entrance, as they’ve lived in Cwmparc for a year. They consulted authorities about what to do.
The family says their entrance got abused by illegal parking, urination, and air rifle use. Dogs were out of control, and someone nearly hit a child with a car. People shined torches into their kids’ bedroom at night.
The family cited safety concerns as the reason for the gates, aiming to protect their children.
Locals want the gates removed and access restored. Richard Clarke and David Williams are assisting by gathering evidence of path use. They want to prove the path’s long use and seek public right of way status, which could restore access again.
The family says they love Cwmparc and like settling their children there. Their property borders the forest, and the entrance abuse forced their actions.
They specify the abuse included illegal parking, dangerous driving, and out-of-control dogs. Dog fouling, urination, aggression, theft, drugs, and air rifles occurred, while nightly torches scared them, leading to the decision to install security gates to protect their children.
The family expressed gratitude for the support from NRW, Welsh Water, and the fire service. They also thanked the council and the police, the latter providing reassurance after serious threats appeared.
The family is looking for another solution, noting a path by their property that could be another route. Clearing work has started on the path, and they ask for patience due to weather delays. An unused allotment offers potential gate access, and the family can help clear it, if granted consent. They thank kind individuals, which motivates them to find a solution that meets the needs of everyone.
