Residents seek lower speed limit on B5066 Hilderstone Road due to vehicles reaching 140 mph, endangering locals.

Currently, the speed limit is 60 mph. Locals say cars go way faster. The road is straight, making it worse. Junctions are dangerous for turning cars. Folks want a 40 mph zone.
It would be before the 30 mph zone and cover about a kilometer. They hope it slows drivers down a bit. The area has crossings, care homes, stables and a school too.
The village worries for horses and kids. Mrs. Meakin will talk to officials. She started a petition for the council, and they already have over 500 signatures. Councillor Sandiford backs the campaign too.
He mentioned similar zones elsewhere and wants the zone implemented there. He plans to talk to the Police commissioner. County councillor Parry supports their efforts, as well. He has worked on this issue for years, already.
Councilor Deaville said road safety matters. Speed changes need care. Lower speed limits can have bad effects. Such changes demand careful evaluation.
