Police gain stop and search powers in Widnes after a man was chased by a gang near Bechers on February 15th.

This happened after a man got chased by a big group of young people near Bechers on February 15th. Police searched the area, but found nothing and made no arrests that night.
Now police have special “stop and search” powers under a law called Section 60. Officers can search anyone for weapons without needing a specific reason.
These powers started Saturday evening and end Sunday at 6 PM. The area includes Bechers and nearby roads: Hough Green Road, Prescott Road, and B5178.
Police superintendent Sam Billington said the gang scared people and he wants to stop this behavior. There will be more police around, targeting anyone causing trouble.
