Mohamed Samak is on trial for his wife’s murder. He denies the charges, claiming she stabbed herself. Police questioned his story.

Samak said his wife had problems, citing mental health and alcohol issues. Prosecutors believe he killed her because he wanted another woman and allege financial problems existed. Police said his wife told a friend she didn’t love him and wished she could divorce him.
Samak became upset upon hearing this, stating she never told him that. He said he left his career for her and she said she loved him, he told the police.
Samak used to play hockey for Egypt. Police questioned him about changing his story; initially he said he found her dead, but later, he said he saw her stabbing herself. A neighbor heard a scream, police said.
He admitted he was scared and explained he didn’t mean to lie. Police asked why he waited over an hour to call 999, wondering if he tried to cover up the crime. Samak said he tried to help her and was in a difficult situation.
Samak denied arguing with his wife, losing control and hurting her, or having money issues. He stated he would never cheat; however, he met another woman in London.
The court heard he called a debt service, worried about paying bills. His wife messaged him about sending money and apologized for nagging him. This occurred in December 2023.
His phone showed searches for night jobs, looking for retail and delivery work. The trial continues in court.
