Helen Spree, ex-watchdog chair, denies charges of misconduct, including inappropriate contact and smuggling at HMP Liverpool.

Spree allegedly smuggled drugs and phones and also allegedly supplied cannabis. She was once a chair of a prison watchdog. This watchdog oversaw Walton prison.
Spree denied all the charges against her. The charges describe inappropriate contact, and she also shared sensitive prison information. She allegedly paid a co-defendant.
Her trial is set for March 2 of next year, lasting about three weeks. She is out on bail until then. Dylan Westall is also involved.
Dylan Westall admitted to smuggling items and also confessed to supplying cannabis. Michael Westall pleaded guilty too, admitting similar crimes.
Thomas Porterfield also pleaded guilty to smuggling and supplying. He also had a phone in prison. They will all be sentenced later.
Stephen Brookes and John Hughes pleaded not guilty, denying smuggling and supplying drugs. Hughes also denied having a phone. They will stand trial with Spree.
Authorities arrested Spree in October 2021, following an investigation into corruption. This investigation involved multiple agencies working together.
