This roundabout is near Colchester’s train station, and people call it the North Station roundabout. A newspaper called it a “monster”, where many “almost accidents” occur because it is very confusing. They even named it the UK’s most confusing.
The North Station roundabout has 48 traffic lights that control the increasing Colchester traffic. It beat Beverley’s Grovehill Junction, which had 42 lights; this surely confuses drivers.
Dashcam footage shows cars going the wrong way online. One car drove the wrong way around and then cut across a lane where an oncoming car was in that lane.
Another car went the wrong way, sticking to the inside lane. Drivers seem confused about correct lanes; however, other reasons may contribute.
The roundabout is near Colchester hospital, and a large ASDA and the train station are nearby too, making traffic likely heavier there. Is it a confusing roundabout, or do drivers not know how to use it?
