A man crashed his car into Buckingham Palace gates. His name is Johnny Scott, and he is 26. The judge said he was lucky he wasn’t shot.

Scott drove into the gate in March of last year. He lives in Hornchurch. His VW Polo caused almost £25,000 in damage; however, the Royal Family wasn’t there during the crash.

Armed officers arrested him right away. The court heard his car got destroyed. This happened at the Westminster Magistrates Court on Thursday, February 13.

Scott seemed confused after the crash. He said he had to fix things and used bad language. He had been taking mood stabilizers before the incident.

His lawyer said Scott had a psychotic episode and explained it was a bipolar relapse. She added he did not understand his actions and wasn’t using drugs or alcohol. His family had called mental health services often, and had even contacted their local MP.

Scott feels very sorry for what he did, the lawyer said. This behavior was unusual for him. The judge said he damaged a structure that is culturally huge and stated he was fortunate not to be shot.

She gave Scott a 12-month community order and stated he cannot enter the SW1 1AA postcode. He must do 100 hours of unpaid work and needs to pay £5,000 in compensation. He has two years to pay it and there was no victim surcharge.

Scott admitted to causing over £5,000 in damage on January 16. He wore a blue suit and tie in court and only spoke to verify basic information. He sat as the sentence was read, and his family was there to support him.
