Two siblings, Roman and Darcie Casselden, died in Pitsea after their e-scooter collided with a car; investigation ongoing.

The coroner opened inquests separately in Chelmsford. She stated they rode an e-scooter when a motor vehicle crashed into it. The car traveled east on Ashlyns as it neared Stokefelde.
Emergency services arrived quickly. Darcie died at 7:10 PM, followed by Roman at 7:50 PM. A traumatic head injury caused their deaths, and further investigation is needed.
Their mother formally identified them. Police arrested the car’s driver for several offenses. The police requested an inquest suspension, citing an ongoing investigation and a possible prosecution. The coroner suspended both inquests, with a review scheduled in four months.
The coroner offered her sympathy, noting Roman and Darcie were very young and the circumstances tragically awful. Their mother shared a statement, highlighting their love, kindness, and enduring spirit. Police arrested two people; a woman was bailed, and a man was released under investigation.
