Locals in Edinburgh feel uneasy. Many young people act antisocially, using quad bikes, e-bikes, and scooters which causes problems downtown.

One resident saw youths on quad bikes damaging The Meadows’ grass on Thursday. Vijay said the use of e-bikes increased since lockdown and thinks using bikes on paths is dangerous.

The Nordic Walking Group feels frustrated too, stating the youths come to make a mess and should go elsewhere. Emily, who walks into the city from Currie, saw damage and noticed more quad bikes and scooters locally.

The Pavilion area, which houses shops, a cafe, and a charity near The Meadows, suffered significant grass damage from the bikers. Erin, who works at Demode Vintage, said people ride e-bikes and motorcycles there, intentionally scaring people.

Erin thinks free travel cards are great, but wonders if kids ride expensive bikes due to boredom. People worry about how visitors view The Meadows.

Lee, who runs FoodShare at the Pavilion, stated they try helping the community, but the youth’s behavior hinders this work. This has been happening for weeks, and the Pavilion covered the grass with wood chips. Lee believes people misbehave because they feel untouchable and sees a lack of consequences.
