Data reveals Edinburgh and Lothians postcodes with the highest and lowest numbers of registered sex offenders.
The number is up by 24 since the last count in September. Police Scotland shared the figures, listing each postcode area. Livingston, including Uphall Station (EH54), has the most, with 49 registered sex offenders. Leith (EH6) is next highest with 46 registered sex offenders.
Balerno, Currie, and Juniper Green (EH14) have 44 listed. Armadale and Bathgate (EH48) also have 44 offenders. Rosewell (EH24) shows the lowest number with one offender registered there. Kirkliston (EH29) and Gullane (EH31) also have only one listed each. This data is accurate as of January.
Judges add people to the sex offenders register. They do this if a crime has key sexual elements. Ignoring notification rules can mean five years imprisonment. Police Scotland notes offenders come from all backgrounds.
Both men and women can be registered. If you worry about an adult near a child, contact authorities. Suspect they may be an offender? Alert officials.
