They want to make new homes from an old building near Edinburgh on Gogarmuir Road. The building was once Kirkland House, and people first suggested this back in 2020. The initial idea involved ten homes.

They tweaked those plans several times, and approval happened, yet construction is not complete. Now, they need a new agreement about giving money to schools.

The committee will look at it next week because the old deal expired. They must decide what happens now. The building is quite old, from 1868, and has been empty for a while, having housed a school and a hospice.

The plan includes ten modern houses, converting, replacing, and extending parts. The original house becomes four homes, and some newer parts will be replaced by five homes.

The east side becomes one big home with a new garden and parking area. This home will be the largest, having six bedrooms across two floors.

The new extension adds five more homes. Three will have three floors, and two will have two floors and connect to the main house.

Of the ten houses, sizes vary: one has six bedrooms, three have two bedrooms, five have four bedrooms, and one has three.

Officials suggest approving the plans because it reuses an old building sustainably and also adds new homes to the area.

The plan also fits other rules related to the area and construction; this involves drainage, design, and trees, and it also covers listed buildings.

Despite small rule differences, it’s okay because the plan mostly follows local and national rules, and a revised agreement should finalize it, as no other issues outweigh these terms.

Old pictures showed what it could look like, with some homes featuring terraces and balconies.
