Ryan O’Donnell, 37, jailed after explosives and child abuse images found in his Edinburgh home.

He kept chemicals at his flat and garage in Loanhead. Potassium nitrate, nitrogen, and sulphur were among them. Bomb squads went to his address on April 19 last year. EOD units found 1.7kg of homemade low explosives.
They also found a rocket diagram. Notebooks had instructions to prepare high explosives. Details to make fireworks were also there. A Kinder egg held a low explosive.
Cops found tablets with 1,492 indecent child images. The kids were between six and 14. O’Donnell will be in jail for 44 months. This happened after he admitted to charges about explosives.
He is on the Sex Offenders Register for 10 years and will have 12 months of supervision post-release. Moira Orr discussed O’Donnell’s dangerous substances. They could have made improvised explosive devices. These could have harmed people and damaged locations.
Orr said they prosecute sex offenders fully. They want to keep Scotland safe and will work to bring these offenders to justice.
Detective Sergeant Jordan Sharp spoke about the case. The chemicals O’Donnell had were dangerous. Homemade explosives are illegal and risk public safety. He will face the consequences for child abuse images.
Protecting children from exploitation remains a key commitment. They ensure perpetrators face justice.
