Edinburgh considers £600k for Portobello toilets after complaints about public urination. More funding could fix toilets citywide.

More money could fix park toilets too, as St Margaret’s and Victoria parks need work. Cramond Beach might get new toilets as well. The project costs £550,000 total for these spots.
Portobello Beach has two toilet spots now: one hugs the beach at Pipe Lane, and the second is on Bath Street near High Street’s end.
The new toilets would suit all genders and they will include baby changing areas. “Changing Places” offer enhanced accessibility, too. The design matches other new toilet builds now. These restrooms would save energy and water. “Green roofs” aid the environment. The goal involves sustainability and environmental care.
The council report does not say where to build. Temporary toilets at Straiton Place Park caused anger because people disliked the lost green space there.
Cramond Beach could gain facilities using £450,000, while St Margaret’s and Victoria parks get £50,000 each. This pays for fixing their outdated toilets.
Old toilets shut in 2016 near the beach’s east side. The council rents them as a restaurant now, and it has toilets. The restaurant’s toilets have rules though; you must be 18 to use them alone. A guardian must escort younger patrons because it has a bar inside, causing the age restriction.
Closing ten toilet sites saved £300,000 back in 2016. Joppa lost its toilets then, along with Portobello.
Councillors vote about the plans very soon. The meeting happens on Thursday, February 20th and a livestream lets you watch it.
