A report came out from the Scottish Government. It shows crime rates across Scotland.

The report looked at crimes recorded until December 2024. It lists areas with the most crime reports, identifying Glasgow as the most dangerous place with a crime rate of 830 per 10,000 people.

That rate is much higher than the national average, which stands at 543. About 52,476 crimes happened in Glasgow last year. This reflects a four percent increase from the year before.

Of the crimes reported in Glasgow, 12,205 were violent crimes, including murder and serious assault. Dishonest crimes were also prevalent, with 18,975 reports, along with 2,223 sexual crimes logged by police.

Dundee’s crime rate is the second highest, coming in at 775 per 10,000 people. The city had 11,655 reported crimes, which is down eleven percent from last year.

Dundee saw 2,760 violent crimes reported, while dishonest crimes totaled 4,808. The city also had 466 sexual crimes recorded, and 1,914 crimes against society.

Edinburgh’s crime rate is the third highest in Scotland, with 718 crimes per 10,000 people. Police recorded 37,590 crimes in Edinburgh in 2024, marking a nine percent increase from 2023.

Within Edinburgh, 7,268 violent crimes were reported. Dishonest crimes totaled 19,060. Police also recorded 1,289 sexual crimes, alongside 5,816 crimes against society.

West Dunbartonshire and Aberdeen City follow. West Dunbartonshire reported 658 crimes per 10,000 people, while Aberdeen City had a rate of 627.

The report notes police records show crime levels, but not all crimes are reported to the police. The government website contains the full report with the top ten areas listed.

Glasgow City tops the list with a rate of 830, followed by Dundee City at 775, and Edinburgh with 718. Then comes West Dunbartonshire at 658, and Aberdeen City shows 627. North Ayrshire lists a rate of 578, followed by North Lanarkshire at 567, East Ayrshire showing 546, West Lothian with 541, and Dumfries and Galloway at 531.
