The government gave Eden £2.5 million recently, which funds activity for this year. This includes detailed design work. Architects and engineers on the design team will examine construction specifics and consider activities.
Plans show exhibits, research spaces, and music concerts. Event spaces of different sizes are planned, catering to 50 to 6,000 people.
Ground investigations are due this year on Morecambe’s seafront. The aim is to finish Eden in 2027 or 2028.
Lancaster University, Lancaster City Council, and Lancaster & Morecambe College help the project. Education, jobs, and scientific research are vital alongside tourism gains.
Lancashire County Council looks at roads, aiming to improve transport links. Park-and-ride near the M6 is one idea. Heysham is another possible location suggested by city councillors.
Some councillors want better rail links. Electric trains could run locally, servicing Morecambe, Heysham, and possibly Lancaster.
