Hedon in East Yorkshire will trial a 20 mph speed limit for six months, starting in March, to improve safety.

The current speed limit is 30 mph. Now, it’s dropping for the trial, slowing things down in the East Yorkshire town.
Lots of 20 mph zones are appearing in the UK. Wales voted for 20 mph as the default limit in built areas. England also has similar plans in some places. Wirral wants 20 mph on most residential roads.
East Riding Council wants 20 mph zones too. They are starting a trial in Hedon, and they think it will make things safer, making it more pedestrian-friendly.
The council wants the 20 mph limit to enforce itself, but police will still enforce the zones when needed. Safer Roads Humber and police handle speed limit enforcement.
Residents can share feedback during the trial. They want your thoughts and observations because this input is really important.
The council will gather data on vehicle speeds, traffic volumes, and accident rates. All this will help them decide what to do later, determining if the new limit works.
