Three East Lothian police stations are set to close in Prestonpans, Dunbar, and North Berwick following a public consultation.

The three stations were built before 1950. They were designed for policing needs then. Prestonpans station has been unused since last year. North Berwick and Dunbar had few officers.
Police say closing them won’t reduce service. They will still respond to incidents and support local areas. Police presence doesn’t depend on buildings.
Close stations were once useful, but now the need is less. Prestonpans and Tranent are close together. Police say two buildings are unnecessary. North Berwick and Dunbar staff move to Haddington.
This fits with a ten-year policing plan. Response officers for those towns are already based in Haddington. The response to incidents won’t change. The level of community service stays the same.
