They are making a North London road safer. Nine crashes happened there in five years. This road is the A1306 New Road in Rainham. It is between Lambs Lane and Sandy Lane.

New features are coming to this road. They will install a center island for safety. Also, signs will flash if you speed. Rumble strips will also alert drivers.

About 1,700 cars use it hourly. Many people drive too fast on it. They clocked drivers at 60 mph. The speed limit is actually 40 mph.

The crashes happened from 2019 to 2024. One crash was fatal. Two happened when it was wet. One happened at nighttime. Most were between 10 AM and 4 PM.

The island goes between Wennington Road and Sandy Lane. Rumble strips go north and south of Wennington Road. They will paint double yellow lines too. This is along Wennington Road and the Premier Inn’s road.

They will remove some signs to clean it up. ULEZ signs are going away. Tree branches will get trimmed. Slippery road signs will also be removed.

The road connects Barking & Dagenham to Essex. Some businesses are there. There is a Premier Inn and a kebab shop. There is also a field for sales.

Someone wanted cameras but they are not happening. The council said it was not their call. They think the other changes are good enough. The project costs £40,000 from Transport for London.
