East Devon ends its Suez contract in 2026 to manage waste and recycling services independently for better control.

Suez’s contract ends in June 2026. The council will create a new company, called a LATCo, to handle waste services. They want better cost control and flexibility.
Geoff Jung thanked the Suez team, praising their hard work and service. He noted their high recycling rates and said the decision was not easy, adding that new laws require better adaptation.
Suez staff can transfer to the new company, following employment protection regulations. Vehicles and resources also transfer, so residents should see continuous service.
The council confirmed this on February 26 and are preparing for the June 2026 change. They aim to keep service quality high as they prepare for government recycling reforms.
East Devon recycles a lot already, ranking sixth best in England. The council uses some electric vehicles now, which improves their sustainability efforts.
Vincent Masseri thanked the council. Suez served East Devon for thirty years and pioneered three-weekly collections together, leading to excellent recycling rates. Suez will finish strong, promising great service and recycling.
