New ANPR camera at Neville’s Cross junction in Durham enforces traffic rules, fining offenders £70.

The camera went live on February 17th, so be aware. The Highway Code says keep exits clear at box junctions. Only enter if your exit road is free.
You can wait in the box when turning right. Oncoming traffic must block you, though. The camera watches cars that stop illegally. You will get a £70 fine for violations.
Durham Councillors Scott and Brown funded this project. They used their AAP neighborhood budgets to pay. Each contributed £10,655 for this measure.
The A167 junction sees heavy traffic. Blocking it causes jams, impacting everyone. Emergency vehicles can also get delayed by it. This aims to improve traffic flow there.
It should discourage drivers from blocking the junction. Pedestrians, including children, will have safer crossings.
